FAQ Healthy Place Massage

A massage itself should never hurt. There are times when the massage therapist may come across an area that is painful or sore. Be sure to tell you massage therapist about the amount of pressure that is comfortable for you. Remember, this can change from massage to massage.

Massage has been used for multiple aches and pains even beyond back pain and arthritis. For many people, the massage of muscles relieves tension, normalizes tone and re-aligns muscle fibers to provide for the proper pull on other structures, such as bones and relieving trapped nerves. Also, massage techniques can assist the body in moving out toxins from the body. We also offer paraffin treatments in our Connellsville office that are great for arthritis pain.

A couple of conditions that require you not receive a massage include when you have a fever, the flu, having acute cardiac conditions, have sunburn in the area to be massaged or having a medical condition that the massage therapist is not experienced in treating, such as pregnancy or cancer. However, we are qualified to treat pregnancy and cancer clients (This is NOT a complete list.)

YES. There are varying degrees of pain associated with fibromyalgia. The amount of pressure needed varies with each client. On a personal note, I have found that massage has been one of the treatments that allows me to function even on my most painful days.  John

While a prescription is not legally necessary at this time, some insurance companies that pay for massage may ask for a prescription. If you have a complex medical condition, you may want to consult with your health care provider so that they can be in contact with your massage therapist to provide the most effective massage.

Currently, some auto insurance, workers compensation, and Federal Health/Medical Savings Plans provide payment for massage therapy.  Please call for specific details.

YES.  We pride ourselves in our on-site service for personal and business events.

You may bring a guest with you to your massage as long as they are able to sit quietly and not interfere with the massage. We kindly ask that you not bring small children that would need your attention during the massage Remember, you are coming either for a medical treatment or relaxation.  If your guest also decides to get a massage of the same or longer length, you get a DISCOUNT !

ACTUALLY, before, during and after. The type and duration depends on the sport and the athlete.

Chair massage: you stay fully dressed.

Table massage: The massage therapist leaves the area while you get on the table under the sheet. You are draped with a sheet or blanket with the area to be massaged uncovered. All table massages are done in an area that is blocked off from the general public. During sporting events, table massages are done more in the open, however athletes are dressed in their respective attire.

NO, the massage therapist stays dressed. However, the massage therapist may kick off their shoes or sandals. Seriously, you only undress to your personal comfort level. If you need assistance to dress/undress you are welcome to bring another person to assist you. As stated in question #10, your modesty/privacy will always be respected.

Our chair massages start at 15 minutes. Generally a medical massage is approximately 30-60 minutes, while a pregnancy or full body massage is 60+ minutes. Longer massages are also available.

A chair massage is conducted in a specialized chair. This is good for events as well as massage newcomers who aren’t sure what they want. This method of massage is good for head, neck and shoulder massage. Table massage often allows the massage therapist to perform different types of massage that are longer in duration or intensity.

Massages can be modified to your personal needs, for example, wheelchairs, hospital beds etc. Please inform the massage therapist of your special needs and we will accommodate you to the best of our ability. Our Connellsville office has an electric massage table to accomodate clients who may have diffuculty getting up/down from a standard massage table.
